I’m so excited about the service we had last night and what the Lord is doing in the Teen Ministry at Victory Baptist! We had one of our larger crowds in quite some time and the teens listen incredibly well. We continued in our “Digging Through Daniel” series and looked at Daniel 1:8-20 and saw the purpose, processing, person, and proving of Daniel.
Daniel asked Melzar for ten days to prove himself. Instead of defiling himself by taking the King’s meat and wine he asked for water and vegestables. What he took into his body soon became evident by his countenance. It works the same for us spiritually as well. The godly things we put in our lives and feed upon will become evident to others as they look upon us. Likewise, the ungodly things we feed upon will become evident as well.
I challenged each teen for the next 10 days to let God prove himself. As Daniel refused to physically eat that which would be a hindrance to him, I challenged each teen to lay aside some spiritual hindrance their dealing with (could be a sin or could just be a distraction). I likewise challenged each of them to feed upon something they had not been doing that would help them spiritually. This might include increasing something they are already doing or starting to do something they have failed to do. There was a noticeable difference in Daniel’s life after 10 days and I believe with all my heart that the same will be true of the teens that took this challenge.
Here is a pic of John and Andrew competing to see who could drink their Dr. Pepper the fastest. The catch was that they had to take one of their socks off, put it over the can, and drink the Dr. Pepper through it.
This is a late post but I want to say how proud I am of some guys in our teen ministry. Last Sunday Matt, John, and Steven stood up in front of our church delivered great messages out of God’s Word. We also heard Devin, who just graduated a year ago and is a product of the bus ministry, as well as Phil who has for about a year and has an incredible testimony. It’s excited to see young men who are willing to be used of the Lord. I look forward to seeing what the Lord is going to do through their lives in the days to come.
We had a great time this past week as we went up to Dayton, Tennessee for the Our Generation Teen Camp held at the Fort Bluff Camp facilities. This camp was put on by Vision Baptist Church and they did a wonderful job. There were 24 of us who went and the Lord moved in a great way throughout the week. It was a great way to kick off the summer and I’m very excited about the many decisions that were made for Christ.
Congratulations to our Seniors for 2011! This past Sunday we recognized those students who will be graduating from High School in just a few days. Ryan, Ashly, Jordan, Ashley, Kodi, Sheldon, Felecia, Sarah, and Riley have meant a lot to our teen ministry and will truly be missed. We are praying for you all and we look forward to seeing the Lord continue to use you.
We just finished up with “The War at Victory 2011″ and what a great time we had! Bro. Keith Shumaker, who is one of our missionaries to Burkina Faso, was our guest preacher and he did a wonderful job. The teens were responsive to God’s Word as it was preached and we saw ten accept Christ as their Savior any many others made decisions for the Lord as well. I want to thank all those who had a part in helping. It took over a thousand man hours to put this event on but it was well worth it. Things for the most part ran smoothly, teens had a blast, and lives were changed for eternity.
I was pumped up last Wednesday night as three of our young men stood up and preached. Devin Hayes, who started coming on our busses a few years ago, stood up and preached on “Being Angry and Sinning Not.” It’s awesome to see the influence that Victory Baptist Church has had on his life. After Devin, John Higgins preached on “What Type of Christian Are You?” You can either live to please yourself, others, or the Lord. Dallas Brown followed and was the main preacher for the evening. Dallas just graduated last year and is a student in the Training Center here at the church. He looked at two individuals in the Bible who started strong yet finished weak. These two men were Lot and Joash. As long as Lot had Abraham and Joash had Jehodiah, these men seemed to be fine. But as soon as the leadership was gone, each men made a drastic turn for the worse. Our teenagers will not always have parents, youth leaders, and other people over them in a way like they do now. Soon they will graduate from school, move out on their own, and begin making major decisions on their own. It’s imperative that they learn how to seek the Lord on their own instead of relying on spiritual leadership above them to do so.
